Binocular – a short film featuring Language Movement

December 9, 2009

The premiere of “Binocular”, a short film featuring Language Movement veteran Abdul Matin, also known as “Bhasha Matin”, will be held today at Central Public Library auditorium, Shahbagh at 4 pm.

“’Binocular’ is the story of a retired individual who spends his days observing people around him through a binocular,” said Md. Iqbal Hossen Miazee. Miazee had done the screenplay for “Binocular”.

“As the story progresses, the elderly person starts to notice the imbalances in society,” Miazee added.

For example, one day he sees a man begging on the streets, pretending to be blind, which reminds him of employment issues in the society.

“There are also segments on Language Movement and Liberation War,” added Miazee.

Speaking on the film, Miazee saids “We have tried to focus on major social issues, using the binocular as a medium. People experience these problems everyday and they do not need any special tool to notice them. We just tend to ignore, but things should not be that way,” he said.

“Binocular” is a 20 minute film. The film has been directed by Pulak Saha. Theatre personality Mamunur Rashid will be the chief guest at the event. Abdul Matin will preside over the session.
